Shipibo pottery derives from an artistic tradition, which seems to be indigenous to the Amazon basin. The characteristic design is created by combining heavy and fine red and black lines on a cream colored background. Traditional Shipibo pottery included pots for boiling meat and fish, bowls for eating and vessels for storing beer.
